Picture This {October}

Here’s a whole lot of pictures of what I’ve been working on the past few weeks.

A frozen themed party

A Minnie Mouse themed party

Some cakes and macarons

Finally, a Sofia the a First party. The setup was done by Polkadots and Jellytots.

Here are some photos of the setup by Polkadots and Jellytots. The cakes, cakes pops and cupcakes were made by me.

Cakes, cakes and more cakes

I’ve been super busy these past couple of weeks, which is a good thing, because it means my business is growing. 🙂

There seemed to suddenly be an influx of orders for cakes. Now, my usual cake order is around 1 a week, with the bulk of my orders coming from macaron and cupcake and cake pops sales. ( not that I can’t bake a yummy cake 😉 ) This past week I had a total of 4 cakes on order in addition to my regular orders.

They ranged from picture cakes so a super chocolatey chocolate cake.

This one was for a little girl who knew exactly what she wanted. Chocolate sponge with light purple vanilla buttercream and butterflies. Her mother sent me a few photos of her, so I put together a little collage for the picture part of the picture cake.

These were the matching cupcakes.

This one is the second picture cake that was ordered, funnily enough also with light purple buttercream.

The chocolate one! This was by far the chocolatiest cake I’ve ever made. It was concentric rings of chocolate buttercream and dark chocolate ganache sandwiched between 2 layers of chocolate sponge. It was then covered in a rich chocolate buttercream and then the dark chocolate ganache again. And finally finished off with thin pieces of tempered chocolate around the outside. Chocolatey indeed!

This is the last one that I did, and by far the most fun to make. It was a Spongebob Squarepants themed cake. Chocolate sponge with vanilla buttercream and plastic icing and little sea shells in coloured white chocolate. I loved making the Spongebob, Patrick and Gary characters for the top of the cake.

And of course the cupcakes to match.

And that’s all 🙂

Pics Of The Week: Diwali

My Diwali pictures are a bit late but better late than never right 🙂

Diwali this year was great. I was a little swamped during the week getting orders ready for collection but I am definitely not complaining. It just meant that baking for myself ended up being a little rushed.

Here are the pictures of the orders that I made as well as some of the Diwali gifts I put together.

12 Macarons in Burfee, Chana Magaj, Rose, Chai, Toasted Coconut and Elachi

The Boxes of 6 Macarons Ready To Be Packed

These are gifts that I put together to give to friends and family. They all had smackarons, macarons and mini cupcakes with burfee and chana magaj buttercreams.

Here are a few pictures of my beautiful family and our Diwali day.

Pics of the week: Polkadots and Jellytots

This past weekend I had a great time working on an order for Polkadots And Jellytots.

This party planning and candy buffet styling company is run by Nicky Abrahams and she definitely has a talent for putting things together in the most beautiful way.

The request was for everything is white and and yellow. Not too bright but not too pale either 🙂 I think it all came together beautifully.

She sent me some pictures from the event. I don’t think my products have ever looked this beautifully presented.

Macaron Smash Cake

I had a whole lot of left over macarons and this is what we got 🙂 You either love the look or hate it, but it was quite yummy if I do say so myself.
Vanilla sponge with vanilla buttercream and smushed chai, raspberry, almond and vanilla macarons. I think there may have been a few lamington macarons in there also.

A nice Father’s Day treat 🙂

Spread the Love

I’m always being asked for either a recipe for macarons or on tips when making them. So I’m sourcing as many different recipes as I can for everyone to try out. It took me quite a few tries, different recipes and tweaks to get it right and I realized that different recipes for work different people. So this is a chance for you to try out the different recipes and see which suits you best. I’ll also include tips that I’ve picked up along the way that have helped me.

I am by no means an Adriano Zumbo or Pierre Hermes, but I do have a passion for what I do and what better way to express that than by sharing what I know. I will try to make it a weekly blog piece and I have a lot of other fun stuff and recipes in the works as well, so stay tuned 😉

I would love feedback and pictures of your attempts so that I can share.

Happy baking!
