Hello Monday : Eat All The Cake

Hello Monday!

After a 500 3 week long school holiday the kids are back to school today and life will return to somewhat normal programming.

I have to say that although I did endeavour to take some time off and enjoy the holidays with my girls, it was a very busy period for me filled with many, many cakes, so I don’t really think that that they minded at all.

This Wednesday I will be posting Tip # 2/20 in my Macaron Files series (Know Your Almonds). If you missed the first tip you can find it here.

Then on Friday will be a healthy but delicious recipe from GI Jane in the Blogger Recipe series and somewhere in between I will be sharing my recipe for Gluhwein and my Chocolate Gluhwein Cake. So, stay tuned for an awesome week ahead!

Here are a few photos of my favourite bakes from the past few weeks.

If you’ve seen something that you like, you can always head over to our contact page and send us an enquiry or just leave a comment here to let us know which one you loved the most 🙂

#PursueToSmile Challenge

I was nominated by the lovely Verushka of Spice Goddess for the Pursue To Smile challenge.

I think that the power of a smile is so underestimated today. I know that it doesn’t matter how bad a day I’ve had, a smile from Jasmin or Teyla can lift my spirits in an instance. Even a smile from a passer by can make a difference in your day. I even read somewhere that if you’re feeling a bit down you should smile and this will fool your brain into thinking
that you’re in a good mood and your mood will actually improve. How true this is I’m not sure, but it can’t hurt to try 🙂

So the way the challenge works is that you are suppose to

1. List 5 things that make you smile
2. Post a picture of you smiling
3. Nominate 2 or more people to be a part of the challenge
4. Tweet – I have taken on the #PursueToSmile Challenge.

The 5 things that make me smile

1. Top of the list will always be my family. Justin, Jasmin and Teyla. Being around them makes my heart happy even though they do drive me a bit nuts sometimes. ( I drive them equally nuts so it’s a good balance 🙂 )
Just last night the girls were looking at picture of me from a while back with a lot of make up on. So I asked if I looked better then with all the makeup and Teyla says ‘No Mummy, we love you just the way you are’. Then the 2 of them started singing Bruno Mars’ Just The Way You Are. Now. Who wouldn’t be able to smile at that!

2. The past 2 years have been filled with a lot of hard work and late nights and missed events but it’s all been worth it when I see how much my business has grown. So being able to get up every morning and do a job that I love and that I can pour all my creativity into makes me smile.

3. That my parents and my sisters and their husbands and kids and my grandmother aren’t more than 10 minutes away from my home. We may not be fixtures in each other’s houses but it’s good to know that they are close.

4. My amazing friends, who I mostly get to see about once a year because we all live in different provinces, but in those times that we are together it seems like no time has passed at all. I regard them more as sisters than friends and we all appreciate each other’s special type of insanity.

5. Connecting with new people. When my girls were first born and I quit my job to be a stay at home mum. I was suddenly in a little cocoon where I wasn’t meeting many new people. That’s changed and I love meeting new , genuine people and connecting and getting to try new things with them.

I’ve followed Verushka’s idea and posted a collage of smiles with all the people that were responsible for them.

I nominate Jane (@gijane_zn) , Annelise ( @AnneliseSingh), Namasha (@namz81) , Jane ( @Jane10net)

A smile is a powerful weapon, you can even break ice with it! -Unknown

Cakes, cakes and more cakes

I’ve been super busy these past couple of weeks, which is a good thing, because it means my business is growing. 🙂

There seemed to suddenly be an influx of orders for cakes. Now, my usual cake order is around 1 a week, with the bulk of my orders coming from macaron and cupcake and cake pops sales. ( not that I can’t bake a yummy cake 😉 ) This past week I had a total of 4 cakes on order in addition to my regular orders.

They ranged from picture cakes so a super chocolatey chocolate cake.

This one was for a little girl who knew exactly what she wanted. Chocolate sponge with light purple vanilla buttercream and butterflies. Her mother sent me a few photos of her, so I put together a little collage for the picture part of the picture cake.

These were the matching cupcakes.

This one is the second picture cake that was ordered, funnily enough also with light purple buttercream.

The chocolate one! This was by far the chocolatiest cake I’ve ever made. It was concentric rings of chocolate buttercream and dark chocolate ganache sandwiched between 2 layers of chocolate sponge. It was then covered in a rich chocolate buttercream and then the dark chocolate ganache again. And finally finished off with thin pieces of tempered chocolate around the outside. Chocolatey indeed!

This is the last one that I did, and by far the most fun to make. It was a Spongebob Squarepants themed cake. Chocolate sponge with vanilla buttercream and plastic icing and little sea shells in coloured white chocolate. I loved making the Spongebob, Patrick and Gary characters for the top of the cake.

And of course the cupcakes to match.

And that’s all 🙂

Pics of the week: Polkadots and Jellytots

This past weekend I had a great time working on an order for Polkadots And Jellytots.

This party planning and candy buffet styling company is run by Nicky Abrahams and she definitely has a talent for putting things together in the most beautiful way.

The request was for everything is white and and yellow. Not too bright but not too pale either 🙂 I think it all came together beautifully.

She sent me some pictures from the event. I don’t think my products have ever looked this beautifully presented.

The smackaron and other stuff

This post is very long overdue but I’ve been a busy little bee.

I’ve dedicated alot of time recently to creating a fitter, healthier me and unfortunately between my family and business it’s left little time for much else.

The most exciting news is that next month not only will Madame Macaron be 1 year old, but we will be launching our Macaron of the Month Tasting Club. I’m very very excited about this and I’ve been spending alot of time sourcing packaging because the last thing I would want is a box of smashed macarons landing on someone’s doorstep.

I’ve been thinking about doing this for a very long time and all the contemplation is finally yielding something great. I will post more about it next month when all the details are finalized.

The other big news is my creation, The Smackaron!
To be fair is was an accidental creation, but as many have told me, the best things are done by accident.

So what is a smackaron? Only the best thing you will ever taste! I could liken it to a sweetie pie but it’s so much better. So lets say sweetie pie meets macaron. It’s a soft, delicious mound of red velvet macaron mixture (with a tweak here and there), filled with cream cheese frosting and covered in dark chocolate. Need i say more?

If you love macarons you will adore the smackaron.

In case you don’t believe me here was the latest feedback 🙂

“@Amy_mi: Ohhhh my Holy mother of calorie sin!! Finally tasted @madamemacaronsa ‘s red velvet dark choc macaroons! Heaven! I need more!”
